The personlmd.com website enables its members to securely store and rapidly retrieve personal medical information for use when changing doctors, seeing a specialist, or in a medical emergency. After a free registration, members receive a PersonalMD card that includes the user's name, faxID, and personal identification number. The card can be used by the member, or a physician authorized by the member, to access the stored medical information online or via fax. In addition to this service, the site offers various "health centers", news, a medical encyclopedia, and searchable drug database.
