CONSUMERS EMBRACE ONLINE HEALTH RECORDS
PLEASANTON,
CALIF., January 26, 2000 - Consumers' desire to take better
control of their health in an age when people rely on instantaneous
information, has led to greater acceptance of online health
records. At the forefront of the movement is PersonalMD.com,
a one-stop health destination site with roots in IT consulting
that provides these consumers with confidence in online security.
More
than 90,000 people already have placed their health records
on www.PersonalMD.com,
and a deal announced today with Executive Health Group raises
that number to well over the 100,000 mark. According to the
terms of the agreement, Executive Health Group will offer
PersonalMD.com offer PersonalMD.com's online personal health
records, personalized medical news, exclusive health features,
and a co-branded emergency card as part of its physical examination
programs for its 20,000 individual members who represent the
top echelon of Fortune 500 corporations.
With
the consent of the client, the records will include results
of all the tests performed during Executive Health Group's
comprehensive exam. Members can then include additional medical
information. These offerings also will be available through
Executive Health Group's corporate programs.
"These
numbers demonstrate that consumers want the security of having
their records accessible by emergency physicians and are willing
to take responsibility for creating and managing them," explains
Suresh Challa, President and CEO of PersonalMD.com. "The deal
with Executive Health Group demonstrates an understanding
of these consumer desires and needs by businesses."
PersonalMD.com
has designed proprietary systems that enable the company to
offer the level of security consumers crave. Unique technological
features bridge the divide between the predominantly low-tech
nature of medicine, in which 95 percent of all documents are
paper based, and the Internet.
Once
a member enters information into the easy-to-follow data fields,
he or she can fax paper documents, including EKGs, lab reports
and even handwritten physician notes directly into a secure,
confidential health record. The process occurs without human
intervention and assures that no one, not even PersonalMD.com
employees, can access the member's file.
Emergency
physicians can retrieve the information immediately during
a medical crisis via Internet or a standard fax machine. Unlike
other services, the physicians do not need to be part of a
network, assuring instant access from anywhere in the world,
when every moment counts.
Each
member receives a PersonalMD-Emergency Card, or a co-branded
card through PersonalMD.com partners, a few days after registering
which provides the link between the online personal health
records and emergency physicians.
The
member's user name, PIN Code (if desired) and Fax ID are printed
on the front of the card, while pertinent information; e.g.:
contact physician and family names, drug allergies and blood
type can appear on the back, along with simple step-by-step
instructions on how to access the records.
Since
medical professionals worldwide look for emergency alert cards,
paramedics can read the information printed on the card and
then radio ahead the fax ID and PIN so that the attending
physician can review the chart before the ambulance arrives.
Each member also receives a personalized home page with medical
news and exclusive health features, based on his or her specific
health interests.
