Emergency
Information

Federal
Practitioner

September 1, 1999
A
patient arrives in your emergency department, in need of immediate
attention. Do you have all the information you need to treat
him effectively? If he has registered with PersonalMD.com,
the answer is yes. Through its "emergency card" program, PersonaMD
allows clinicians to access patients' medical records in the
event of a medical emergency. While the card itself contains
vital information such as the patient's primary care physician,
blood type, allergies, and contact information, it also instructs
clinicians on how to retrieve the patient's complete medical
history, either by internet or fax. In addition to the emergency
card, the site offers spotlight articles, access to a drug
database and a health encyclopedia, and allows visitors to
post questions to practitioners in a variety of fields, or
visit "health centers" on topics ranging from cardiac care
to alternative medicine.
