| Who
can access my PersonalMD file? You
are the sole person with access to your medical information contained in this
file. Your information is encrypted and requires a Password
and User Name to be accessed via the computer.
Even physicians who fax information into the file cannot sign onto the site.
It is, therefore, very important that you ensure that all information you would
like emergency department physicians to obtain in the event of an emergency is
contained in this file. How

I
understand emergency physicians need my PIN code in the event that I arrive in
the emergency department unconscious. Doesn't this compromise the security of
my information? No.
Your information is totally secure until an emergency department physician or
paramedic is authorized to use your Card, in the event that you are not conscious,
that medical person can use the Card IF
he or she determines it could mean the difference between life and death.
You are the only one who can change data in the file. Even information faxed into
your e-file must be moved into the emergency services section, much like you would
move an e-mail you've read into the "trash" or other file folder of your e-mail.
Your
information is totally secure until an emergency department physician or paramedic
is authorized to use your Card, in the event
that you are not conscious, that medical person can use the Card IF he or she
determines it could mean the difference between life and death. If you decide
that it is more important for you to safeguard your records than to make them
available to the physicians, you can choose not to have the PIN
Code printed on the Card. Remember, YOU are in total control of the information
contained in the files and whether you want emergency department physicians to
gain access during crucial moments. How
Can I Be Sure The Card can help Emergency Room Physicians If I Choose Not to Include
my PIN Code on the Card? We
recommend strongly recommend having your PIN Code appear on your PersonalMD-ER
Card so emergency physicians will have all the information they need to make split
second decision. If
you prefer to omit this information for any reason, be sure to complete as much
information as possible for printing on the Card, including blood type, drug sensitivities,
allergies, physician's name and number and primary family contact. While
this information could never replace all of the valuable data you can provide
by placing the PIN Code on your Card, it will give them important medical information
they can use immediately. What
Should I Do If My Wallet is Lost or Stolen? You
should go into your PersonalMD file and change your password as quickly as
possible. You can then request a replacement card with the new password for a
one-time fee of $5.00. Like
an insurance card, it is unfortunate that people may obtain your card in these
drastic situations, but please keep in mind that this card holds no value for
the person responsible for this illegal act and that they cannot change your medical
records without your password. |
