Why is the E-file Online Fax Tool so important?
An exclusive service of PersonalMD, E-File enables you to access your vital medical information, including EKGs, lab results and x-ray reports, from anywhere in the world and at anytime when you need it.

These reports are among the most valuable tools an emergency room physician can receive about an incoming patient with previous medical conditions. People arriving in the emergency department could have their documents faxed in to the emergency center even before they arrive at the center.

Each year, 6 million patients come into an emergency room with chest pains. Immediate access to prior EKGs and other cardiac reports routinely given to patients who suffered chest pains in the past, saves valuable time which often translates into lives.
X-ray reports of other medical conditions could have similar effects. Storing advanced directives (Living Wills) is important for seniors who have strong opinions regarding end-of-life treatment in the case of a catastrophic occurrence.

When Can I Begin Using this Service?
You can begin using this service as soon as you receive your PersonalMD-Emergency Card. You can get copies of your medical records from your doctor's office or let your physician's office know which vital medical documents you would like faxed to the service, give them the Fax ID and PIN numbers as they appear on the front of your card.

How Can I or My Physician Fax the Information into My File?

Instructions for faxing in documents

1. Go to a fax machine and pick up the hand set or press the speaker phone button (some fax machines have a "Hook" button or "Phone" button).

2. Once you hear the dial tone, dial 1-408-523-1283. You will hear a welcome message -- press 1 to confirm that you are calling from a fax machine.

3. At the prompt enter your Fax ID and Pin number. After your FAX ID and PIN have been confirmed and verified, the system responds with "Press 1 to retrieve your medical information" or "Press 2 to send a document".

4. Press "2" and the system will respond asking you to press the send button on your fax machine. Make sure you placed the document(s) on your fax machine and that the documents are ready to be faxed in.

5. After the system responds with "Press the Start button", you may hear a beep. Press the "SEND" or "START" button located on your fax machine and your documents will be faxed into your account.

Once all the documents are sent, you will be able to see them in your E-File's FAX INBOX in "My Medical Records" section of your PersonalMD account.

Will the documents I faxed in be available for immediate access by Emergency Department Physicians?

Yes - if you are accessing the records on the Internet by logging on to your account at PersonalMD .

However, in order to be able to access your records using the fax machine, you will have to log into your PersonalMD account and specify which documents you want to be able to retrieve through a fax machine in case of an emergency. (See below for more information).

Will all my documents be faxed out when I retrieve my records using the fax back feature?

No. Only the documents that are in the "Emergency Folder" will be faxed out when you retrieve your record using a fax machine. (See below for more information).

How do I manage or specify which records I want faxed out case of an emergency?

Managing your labs reports or other information downloaded by the physician's office is as easy as retrieving e-mail. Click on the E-file tab on the "My Medical Records" page. You will find the documents you faxed-in, in the FAX INBOX.

Select the files that you think might be useful in an emergency situation and move them into the Emergency Folder. Your files are now part of the documents that will be retrieved by emergency department physicians in case of emergency.

You can organize your records in various folders and remember that only the documents that are in the Emergency Folder will be available to be retrieved via the fax machine.
