An
exclusive service of PersonalMD.com, E-file allows
you to store and retrieve any paper based medical
information such as EKG, lab results, x-ray reports,
prescriptions, hand written notes, etc. from anywhere
and at anytime. These
reports are among the most valuable tools an emergency
room physician can receive about an incoming patient
with previous medical conditions. Even
if you have never had any major problems in the
past, you can benefit greatly by having any paper
records/documents such as advanced directives
(living wills) stored in your E-File folder.
You
can get copies of your medical records from your
doctor's office, or you can ask your physician's
staff to fax in the records for you. Simply select
which vital medical documents you would like to
keep as part your E-File and fax them into your
own personal account at PersonalMD identified
by your FAX ID and PIN
as they appear on the front of your PersonalMD-ER
card.
Instructions
for faxing in documents
1.
Go to a fax machine and pick up the hand set or
press the speaker phone button (some fax machines
have a "Hook" button or "Phone"
button).
2.
Once you hear the dial tone, dial 1-408-523-1283.
You will hear a welcome message -- press 1 to
confirm that you are calling from a fax machine.
3.
At the prompt enter your Fax ID and Pin number.
After your FAX ID and PIN have been confirmed
and verified, the system responds with "Press
1 to retrieve your medical information" or
"Press 2 to send a document".
4. Press "2" and the system will respond
asking you to press the START button on your fax
machine. Make sure you placed the document(s)
on your fax machine and that the documents are
ready to be faxed in.
5. After the system responds with "Press
the Start button", you may hear a beep. Press
the "SEND" or "START" button
located on your fax machine and your documents
will be faxed into your account.
Once
all the documents are sent, you will be able to
see them in your E-File's FAX
INBOX in "My Medical Records" section
of your PersonalMD account.
Managing
your labs reports or other information downloaded
by the physician's office is as easy as retrieving
e-mail. The next time you go into your file to
manage your medical records, click on the E-file
tab on the "My Medical Records" page. You will
find your documents in the FAX INBOX.
Select
the files that you think might be useful in an
emergency situation and move them into the Emergency
Folder. Your
files are now part of the documents that will
be retrieved by emergency department physicians
in case of emergency.
We
hope you never encounter a medical emergency that
requires being taken to the emergency department
at the hospital. However, we trust you will enjoy
the peace of mind that comes with knowing physicians
can retrieve the information required to provide
you with the most efficient and effective service
humanly possible, should this unfortunate event
arise.
