What is the PersonalMD-ER Emergency Card?
PersonalMD-ER
Emergency Card is a personalized card that you
are issued when you register as a PersonalMD member.
The front of the card has your PeronalMD ID information
and the back of the card contains customized medical
information such as your physician and family
contact name and telephone number, allergies,
drug sensitivities, and blood type.
How
do I get the ER Card?
After
you complete your registration, you can view the
PersonalMD-ER Card in your "Medical Records"
section by clicking the "Manage Account"
folder tab.
Make sure to click on "Click
here to order emergency card"
How
do I customize my ER Card?
After
you log into your account you click on "Manage
Account" folder tab. Click the "Customize"
button and you will be able to create your own
personalized ER card.
The
only information you MUST have on your card is
your name. All
additional data is customized based upon what
YOU determine you would like to appear including
your PIN number. We do, however, recommend placing
your PIN number on the card, because in an emergency
you may not be able to recall the PIN or unable
to provide the PIN in the unfortunate event that
you arrive in an emergency room in an unconscious
state.
You
can review and edit the other information that
is printed directly on the card including your
physician's names, allergies and reoccurring medical
conditions.

Why
carry the card and why is the card so important?
Every year, people die in emergency rooms because
important medical information is not available
to emergency department physicians in a timely
manner.
These
physicians, who must make split second decisions
regarding treatments and drugs, tell us that access
to a patient's relevant medical information can
mean the difference between life and death. In
the advent of an emergency, PersonalMD Premier
Member can authorize a physician or paramedic
anywhere in the world to access this crucial information
upon arrival in the emergency department&or earlier.
Even
if your reason for visiting the emergency room
is not life-threatening, granting permission to
the physician to access the information on your
PersonalMD-ER Card eliminates the possibility
of physicians administering medications to which
you may be allergic.
It
also alerts physicians to personal or family history
of related problems, reduces the need for many
tests routinely given to incoming ER patients
and eliminates the worry of remembering all of
your medical information during at an extremely
stressful time.
