| Heart and blood vessel problems - angina-effort [Go Back to Keywords List Page] | angina-effort Angina is the term for a cramplike choking feeling or
crushing heaviness and pain, often on the left side of the
chest or breastbone. When the pain is felt in the chest it
is called angina pectoris. Sometimes the pain starts in the
chest and spreads to the throat, arms, jaws, back, and
between the shoulder blades. Occasionally people have arm
or jaw pain without chest pain. If the angina occurs when
you are exerting yourself in some way (exercising, for
example) it is called effort angina. It is not a heart
attack, but the symptoms are similar.
