Mitral stenosis Mitral stenosis is a narrowing of the opening of the mitral valve. The mitral valve is one of the four heart valves. These valves control the flow of blood through the heart. Mitral stenosis limits the flow of blood through the mitral valve and causes the heart to work harder.
